Douglas Dick, EA, CTP

Douglas’ background spans over 35 years of experience in the fields of tax, bookkeeping and accounting. In 2017 he formed Sancus Tax and quickly realized that he had a passion for tax-reduction planning. He absolutely loves to help people save on tax, so in addition to his EA credential he became a Certified Tax Planner (CTP).

Typical tax professionals focus on putting the right numbers in the right boxes on the right forms. They do a great job of recording history – usually the history you give them.

CTPs like Douglas are different; They specialize on creating proactive tax plans to save taxpayers money. Douglas uses a variety of court tested IRS approved strategies and creates customized tax plans for each unique situation. He has completed special training, maintains ongoing continuing tax-planning education, and adheres to the American Institute of Certified Tax Coaches TM Code of Ethics.

When not putting more of his clients’ money back into their pockets through innovative tax strategies, Douglas is an accomplished chef, team cyclist, advanced diver, and a sought-after speaker on tax-reduction.

Douglas simultaneously maintains his Enrolled Agent (EA) status. Enrolled Agent is the highest credential awarded by the Department of the Treasury. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards, and complete continuing education courses every year.

EAs, like attorneys and CPAs, have unlimited practice rights; they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before. However, in contrast to attorneys and CPAs, the EA credential is a federal one and it is recognized across all 50 U.S. states. People often ask about the company name, Sancus Tax: Sancus was an ancient Roman god of trust, honesty and oaths - values that Douglas has maintained throughout his career and promises to uphold in every business relationship. His former employer, and current client, always gave Douglas the highest rating in the area of honesty on his performance reviews. This is a fact that he is very proud of because his former employer, the President of the company, did not believe in giving ratings of 5 on performance reviews. His logic was that people can always improve, and that a 5 was saying there was no room for improvement. However, he always gave Douglas a 5 on Honesty. Douglas values this reputation for trustworthiness very highly, so Sancus is a perfect fit for his company name.

In his free time, Douglas enjoys cooking, traveling, cycling, and playing with his Airedale Terrier, Max.

Rachel Katz, Client Services Administrator

Rachel Katz joined Sancus Tax in 2021 as Client Services Administrator.

Rachel has a background in Human Resources/Administration and Bookkeeping, as well as many years of Executive Assistant experience. Originally from the East Coast, she currently resides in Long Island, close to the ocean!

In her free time Rachel enjoys spending time with her 3 year old daughter. She also has a passion fostering and rescuing animals.
